bioDiscoverer
Repository: https://github.com/nikhilRP/bioDiscover
bioDiscoverer is a prototype project that aims to visualize differences between diseases based on disease-disease relationships, disease relationship to genes and the pathways their occur in, Gene Ontology annotations of genes, and other information extracted from the Monarch Initiative. Based on the shown differences, new discoveries can be made by clinicians and researchers alike.
Goal: Link essential databases to understand what information we know about a particular disease.
Problem: Understand what resources are available, how to connect these resources and allow for the community to explore the data that is available.
Idea: Search across multiple databases to allow a user to compare information available (phenotype, disease, genes, pathways, drugs).
Summary: During the Network of Biothings Hackathon 2014, the team successfully pulled data from all the listed resources and integrated the data from WikiPathways and Bio2RDF. The Monarch integration was almost complete, but the team ran into challenges with error handling for HTTP requests and with data reshaping to mesh with the rest of the data. Another day would have been required to fully complete the integration.
