CCPP Framework Meeting Minutes 2021 09 23

Agenda

There is a chance that GFDL will use the CCPP framework for their next (v5) model generation
Important features / requirements:
- handling of diagnostics - need to make sure that this fits in with the diagnostics features in capgen from NCAR/CGD
- large number of land types used in LM4 - this fits in nicely with the suggested surface composite rework by NOAA/GSL
Invite someone from GFDL to talk to us about their diagnostics package and what would be required from CCPP?
GFDL is experimenting with the WRFv4 version of MYNN EDMF, this would be a good candidate for a shared physics parameterization
A lot of interest / questions on governance and future development, including sunsetting old code
What makes the CCPP attractive are the standardized interfaces and rules around clear documentation (incl. metadata = units, dimensions, ...) and features such as automatic unit conversions
