Mario asks:

I know you were able to limit SUNet authentication to undergraduate and graduate students. Would it be possible to go further and only limit SSO to undergraduate students?

I responded:

Given our current SSO configuration, we’re unable to do this. This is in part because we don’t have currently have access to the registry data that specifies whether a student is an undergrad, grad, or postdoc. We can request the release of this data, but I believe that we need to first get approval from the Registrar’s Office before requesting UIT release the data. I am not certain how quickly this will move, but we can certainly start the request process.

Detail: we need suStudentType, which isn't one of the core released attributes to either InCommon or even Stanford SPs. I've submitted the request to UIT as RITM00318124:

Details from SNOW ticket
  • Type of Request: SAML Attribute Release (entityID)
  • Entity ID: https://libauth.com/saml/module.php/saml/sp/metadata.php/springy-sp
  • Attributes: suStudentType
  • Application Description: Stanford University Libraries uses products provided by SpringShare, the vendor that maintains the LibAuth SP and a scheduling tool called LibCal. SUL wishes to use suStudentType to differentiate between students types (undergraduate, graduate, and postdoc) in the context of LibCal to limit certain kinds of study room reservations to undergraduate students only.
