I can't pick a folder on Android restricted user account

The problem is exactly this one, but I only get it when running PPSSPP in a restricted user (kids) account, not in the admin account. It's obviously related to the user restrictions, but I do have the Files app installed there, and I can browse through files, folder and external storage from the restricted user account.

What should happen

Other apps installed into the restricted user (e.g. Sketchbook) are able to browse through files, folders and external storage. PPSSPP should do too.

I have no idea what a kids account is, never used one. Can you detail how to set one up, or find a guide? Don't really want to spend time figuring that out :)

It's under Google's Family Link:

You can create a Google Account for your child under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) and manage your child’s Google Account with Family Link. With a supervised Google Account, your child gets access to Google products like Search, Chrome, and Gmail. You can set up parental controls to help supervise them.

I feel a bit more hopeful that you'll be able to fix this now that I found Load works with File Manager+, though Browse doesn't. It's cumbersome, but it works. The games show under Recent, but not under Games. And I lose everything when the app is restarted, bc I can't create/choose a PSP folder; it gives the same error as with Browse:

I've also tried installing a few other file managers — CX Files, OwFiles… — to no avail. The obvious difference is that in Load, PPSSPP is letting the user pick a file, and in Browse it's asking the user to pick a folder.
