Mainframe is considered "a centralized form of computing where storage and compute power are concentrated in one large physical server". The Government of Canada possessed some critical Mainframe applications whose architecture is no longer flexible enough to support the ever changing policy; business process; information, data and reporting needs, and technical expertise availability to maintain them. therefore it is becoming imperative for the Government of Canada to explore strategic approach in addressing these issues with its mainframes.
Cloud computing offers a viable alternative to Mainframe and the Government of Canada is exploring options to migrate some of its mainframe into the cloud.
